MEMO

TO:              CWGA Member Club Presidents
FROM:        Dawn McConkey, Director of Member Services
SUBJECT:  Club President Update
DATE:         September 16, 2010

Greetings club presidents!  The following is an update on golf-related news items.  Please be sure to share applicable news items with other officers and your membership by posting on your club's bulletin board and/or forwarding the email.

Nominations Please!
The Colorado Women's Golf Association is currently looking for a talented woman with development, fundraising, or planned giving experience/interest who would like to volunteer to serve on the CWGA Board of Directors (beginning in 2011).  If you or someone you know fits this description, please let us know by September 30.  Please direct any communication to:

Membership
Member Play Days - There are two remaining CWGA Member Play Days left in 2010, and there are still plenty of openings available to play at two premier private clubs in Colorado.  Please pass the word along to your members to come out to these events!  Registration is available at the Colorado Golf website.
Red Rocks CC on Monday, September 27.   For $125, you get 18 holes of golf, range balls, cart, lunch and prizes.  The event is a 10:00 a.m. shotgun (lunch served after the event).  Deadline to register is Wednesday, September 22.
The Pinery CC on Tuesday, October 12.  This is being conducted as a couples four-ball stroke play event.  Cost per team is $150 which includes 18 holes of golf for two, range balls, cart, lunch and prizes.  This is a steal of a deal as it normally costs $70-$80 for guests...and that price doesn't include the lunch and prizes!!  The event is a 1:00 p.m. shotgun (lunch served prior to the round).   Deadline to register is Tuesday, October 5.

eRevisions and Membership eMail Addresses - Please check with your members to see if they are still receiving their eRevisions.  This year the CWGA switched back to using GHIN to send out eRevision updates.  In the process, the "From address" has changed and that may affect whether your members are receiving this favorite member benefit.  If they are not receiving the eRevision:
Help them ensure the accuracy and/or inclusion of their email address.
How can members' email addresses be added/updated?
Members can log into www.cogolf.org with their GHIN number (within the Colorado Golf banner) and then utilize the "Add/Update Email Address" link in the CGA/CWGA blue member access box on the home page.
Members can provide their address to the club handicap chair.  Then the handicap chair can add/edit the player's email address in the GHIN computer or on GHINClub.net.
For clubs utilizing eClubhouse websites, the player can update their email address in their player record.

If their email address is correct in their player record, they may need to add the "From address" to their list of safe senders through their email provider.  Essentially, without completing this process, the eRevisions could be delivered to Junk/Spam folders or not at all.  Link here for instructions on how to do this for the common email providers.
2011 Championships - We are excited to announce that the majority of CWGA events for 2011 are on the calendar!  A big thank you to the CWGA Site Location Committee that has done an outstanding job with booking the tournaments.  We think the players will enjoy the member facilities that are hosting our events.  See the schedule of the confirmed 2011 sites.

2011 U.S. Women's Open - Coming to The Broadmoor July 4-10!
Still Need Volunteers - There are many exciting ways to get involved with the U.S. Women’s Open but none are more prestigious than being a Hole Marshal.  What makes it even better is that you, your family, and friends can marshal along with other CWGA members on hole #9.  As a Marshal you will be asked to assist with managing the movement of both players and gallery. This is the group that is responsible for promoting physical safety and enjoyment for the gallery. This is by far the best way to be close to all the players because you are right there, inside the ropes!

Interested? Click here to see what you need to do to get signed up.  Interested but not sure of your schedule in July 2011? You can get a full refund up until April.  So, better sign up now!  This will ensure that you get assigned as a Marshal and guarantees that you will get the shirt size you order and not left to get the sizes from the inventory of their bulk order.

A USGA championship is one of the greatest volunteer experiences in sports. See what the $125.00 volunteer package includes.

Ticket Sales - Don't miss out on getting your tickets if you cannot volunteer for the event.  Early ticket sales are strong according to an online version of the Colorado Springs Business Journal.  Be sure to check out the USGA's limited time offer of "Land of the Free" where select tickets purchased online (or at King Soopers stores) are free of additional ticket fees.
Other Notes
Mile-High Golf at $52.80 - Mile-High Golf at $52.80 is a two-week celebration of golf in Colorado this fall, and this event is brought to you by the Colorado PGA, Colorado Golf Association, Colorado Women’s Golf Association and Colorado AvidGolfer magazine.  From September 13-26, 2010, participating Colorado courses will offer golf for the price of $52.80
Depending on the course, the price will include one or two rounds, use of a cart and more.  Get out to the participating courses now and take advantage of some great prices to play some fall golf!  If you don't see a facility listed that you think should participate in this promotion, encourage those courses to participate in 2011! See the participating courses and their golf-related offers.

Club Officer Updates - In early November, a club update form will be emailed to the club presidents.  When you receive this email, please take the time to notify the CWGA of all officer changes for the 2011 season.

As noted below, if you wish to unsubscribe from this email, you may do so. However, this means as a club officer you may not receive future golf-related news from the CWGA staff to communicate to your membership.

SUBJECT:  Club President Update
DATE:          June 3, 2010

Greetings club presidents!  Hope your golf season is going well.  I have included just a few brief CWGA news items to pass along to your club officers and membership.

Membership

  • Member Play Days - In last year's membership survey, we heard that CWGA members would like to take advantage of some informal golf outings that are organized by our association.  Member Play Days are that chance to play at some outstanding courses throughout Colorado...private and resort.  Come out to see us and bring your friends!  Visit the Member Play Days web page for more information and to get registered.  (Additional registration instructions.)  The next play day is at CC of Colorado on Monday, July 12th and is a 1:00pm shotgun with lunch served beginning at 11:30am.  Register on or before July 5th.

  • Affiliate Membership Pilot Program - Tell your friends who like to play golf but do not want a USGA Handicap Index or do not want to be eligible to compete in CWGA Championships that they can now join the CWGA, too!  These members will receive all other benefits of CWGA membership (CommonGround 20% green fee discounts, Member Play Days access, news about lessons and clinics, and much more), but they will not have to join a women's club.  Link to the Affiliate Membership Application.

CWGA Championships - Registration for Junior Match Play is open through Wednesday, June 9, and Junior Stroke Play will be open through Friday, June 18.  Registration for CWGA Match Play and the Stableford will open on Friday, June 25.  (Remember, the location of the two-woman Stableford Championship is now going to be held at the Rio Grande Club in South Fork rather than at Cougar Canyon Golf Links in Trinidad.  The dates of August 24-25 remain the same.)   See further details and the rest of the 2010 schedule.

Other Notes

  • Rounds of Golf up for Bid! - The Colorado Golf Hall of Fame's silent auction is open now through midnight of Monday, June 14th. Bid on rounds of golf at many terrific golf courses all around Colorado and others in Arizona. Lessons and hotel accomodations are available as well.  See the Items up for Auction and Learn How to Place Your Bid
  • PGA Women's Golf Activities
    • June is Women's Golf Month - Click here to find activities specially held for women at courses throughout Colorado.  If your home course isn't on the list, ask them to consider taking part for next year!
    • Family Golf Day - To be held at City Park GC in Denver on Saturday, June 26 from 1:00-5:00pm.  Visit the PGA Colorado Section website for more details.

As noted below, if you wish to unsubscribe from this email, you may do so. However, this means as a club officer you may not receive other golf-related news from the CWGA staff throughout the upcoming year to communicate to your membership.

The CWGA Experience - CWGA members and non-members alike were invited to attend an afternoon of golf instruction in a low-key, fun environment at CommonGround GC on Saturday, April 24th (then rescheduled to Sunday, May 2nd due to weather).  The event was attended by 52 women who enjoyed themselves and learned a lot!  Overall, the event was very well-received.  To read more about The CWGA Experience, read Gary Baines' CWGA Experience article.  The CWGA anticipates conducting similar events in the future in different parts of the state.

CWGA Championships - Registration for several events is currently open.  Those events are Stroke Play, Junior Match Play, and Junior Stroke Play.  See further details and the rest of the 2010 schedule.  One change to note is to the location of the two-woman Stableford Championship.  The event is now going to be held at the Rio Grande Club in South Fork rather than at Cougar Canyon Golf Links in Trinidad.  The dates of August 24-25 remain the same.
Junior Golf - LPGA-USGA Girls Golf programs around Colorado are dedicated to giving girls, ages 7 to 17, of all abilities, the chance to learn to play golf, build lasting friendships, and experience golf in a fun and supportive environment.  Call the CWGA for information on programs in Arvada, Colorado Springs, Loveland, Denver, Grand Junction, and Highlands Ranch.  For information about the Aurora program, click here.

(Posted 1-25-10)

Dear CWGA Club President- The Colorado Womens Golf Association greatly appreciates the support of your club and its individual members, and our staff and volunteers hope your golf experience for 2009 was enjoyable.

This email is to help your club and our office get ready for 2010.

Please read through the following items and update your clubs contact information (see Club Information Updates section) prior to December 16, 2009.

Please Click Here for instructions and to begin the club update process.

Club President Tips - In the most recent Presidents Update email, we asked for your feedback from your experience as club president. We are wanting to hear your nuggets of information that helped you successfully run your club, as well as tips of some things that maybe did not work so well for you. We would like to include club-specific information for a ~How To Run a Golf Club~ session for presidents at the 2010 CWGA Annual Meeting. Please email any feedback that you have to dawn@COgolf.org. Thank you in advance!

One more very important point: the continuity of the operation of your club is dependent upon good communication of your club activities, as well as the CWGA activities, to your club members. Please pass on information to the incoming president and appropriate officers. I cannot stress this point enough.

The CWGA is looking forward to 2010. We continue to try to find new ways to enhance the services we provide to our clubs and individual members and welcome your comments.

Thank you!
Dawn
